|Jiu Jitsu: The Ultimate Self Defense Training|
With the rising crime rates in some areas, sales of things like tasers and pepper spray have increased. But, if they are not used correctly could actually become a weapon used against you. It is even worse when you think of guns as your self-defense. And, while it may make you feel safe to own one, do you really think that you could pull the trigger when the need arises? A lot of people may find that they cannot. Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is the ultimate self defense training for a number of reasons and much safer to use than a weapon that might be taken from you.
In most attacks, the aggressor chooses someone because they look like they are smaller, weaker, slower or are not paying attention to their surroundings. The more vulnerable you appear to someone, the more likely you are to be selected as a victim. Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is one of the many martial art forms that does not rely on matching size to size. In fact, as a self defense method, it eliminates size as a factor completely. Anyone who has worked with a BJJ coach can escape from and then subdue an attacker regardless of their size. It is a matter of using leverage and special techniques that allow you to use the other person’s body weight and size against them while you are able to escape and be safe.
One day you grab your spare keys and realize that your pepper spray is not with you. That, of course, is the day that you encounter someone who is up to no good. Since there are no weapons, there is nothing that you can leave behind. Your training is with you always. You will be ready to defend yourself if need be, no matter where you go or who you go with. Your training will not get you stopped when you try to get on an airplane nor will it set off a metal detector. You are your own best defense.
That is not to say that your BJJ coach will tell you that you are fit to go out and fight against anyone who might confront you. Your training will give you an understanding about your strengths but about your weaknesses as well. You will know when you should stand your ground and protect yourself and when you should look for an escape instead. You should never consider using martial arts training against someone who is armed, for instance. There is no one who is fairly matched against a gun or a knife in the hand of someone who would be willing to use it.
